The Hollywood Arts Council is a community-based nonprofit
organization formed to ensure that the arts play a significant role
in the revitalization of Hollywood. Now celebrating its 28th year,
the Hollywood Arts Council has served the community through
advocacy, coalition building, free public arts events and after
school programs. Hollywood Arts Council believes that the arts
revitalize people as well as communities. It is toward this vision
that the Hollywood Arts Council serves Hollywood.
History
The Hollywood Arts Council was founded in 1978 as a grass roots
membership organization open to all who believed that the arts and
culture of Hollywood must play a role in the lives of residents and
visitors. With 500 community-based members (individuals, businesses
and organizations) the Council has an impressive track record of service.
Geographic Area Served
The Hollywood Arts Council serves two constituencies: The Hollywood
community (Hollywood, a district of the city of Los Angeles,
distinct from ‘Hollywood’ the industry) and the artists and arts
organizations who work in Hollywood. The Hollywood area combines a
mixture of entertainment industry businesses, multiple family
dwellings, home to a rich diversity of cultures as well as an
increasing number of children designated at risk.
Projects
Through the years, the Hollywood Arts Council has initiated a number
of programs and events that either promote or provide the arts to
the community. Project SOAR and the Children’s Festival of the Arts
are examples of two programs, which provide services to the
children of the community. Other projects initiated by the Hollywood
Arts Council include a daily calendar of events published by Discover Hollywood Magazine, Annual Charlie Awards, Hollywood
Arts Affairs, Pilgrimage Concerts
and many more!
Our Funders
We are grateful to our private donors, foundations, the Hollywood business community, the entertainment industry and the City and County of Los Angeles for their support.
