The Hollywood Arts Council is pleased to announce a new and very exciting event program entitled Membership Salons. They will take place several times a year, and will provide members an opportunity to meet and mingle, as well as to introduce prospective members to the Hollywood Arts Council and its mission.
A Night at Wood and Vine
On February 27th, 2011, members and guests convened at the Wood and Vine restaurant to mix and mingle. There was a presentation by Sandra Chin and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's "Play Me I'm Yours" project.
The Spirit of Old Hollywood
On Sunday, October 16th, 2011, the Hollywood Arts Council held its inaugural Membership Salon, The Spirit of Old Hollywood, at the gorgeous (and notoriously haunted) Hollywood Tower.
Upon arrival, guests were greeted in the beautifully restored lobby with aglass of champagne. There they mingled and awaited theelevator--original to the building, as evidenced by its wooden, hingeddoor and the spiritual "energy" that seems to lurk in its corners--thatwould transport them to the 5th floor.
From the 5th floor, guests were able to access one of the building's two stunning rooftops, which included a bar and and a delicious array of food thanks to catering by Grub. On the rooftop, guests enjoyed a Hollywood Spiritini (or two), a specialty cocktail created for the Hollywood Arts Council that featured RND Vodka. Delicious pinot noir was donated by Author Services and a lovely chardonnay was donated by Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards and Winery. We'd like to thank our food and drink sponsors for providing our guests with such special fare. Live music was provided by the talented Chris Schellenger, who sang a number of classic songs accompanied by his pianist James Lent. Celebrity psychic and Council Trustee Patti Negri led a series of Ghost Walks through the haunted halls of the Hollywood Tower. Equipped with EMF readers, bells, and other ghost hunting tools, Patti summoned the spirits and--as warm and cold spots materialized, we got chills, and the hairs on the backs of our necks pricked up while lights flashed and buzzers buzzed--some even showed up! Patti also auctioned off seats to a seance, to be held at the historic property later in the year, to some very lucky guests.
The Spirit of Old Hollywood event was a fun and successful evening. We were all so glad to see so many members--old and brand new--walking the halls of the Tower and sipping on Spiritinis in their spiffiest 1920s, '30s, and '40s outfits. It was a truly "spirited" evening. We hope you'll join us for the next one! Check out our YouTube Channel for some videos from the night!
